Mastering the Mystery of Motivation

Day 5

The Paradigm that Changes Everything

Hey welcome to day 5.

I hope you’ve been implementing the ideas from the first 4 days. I promise you that they will change your life if you do them.

Motivation is such a fickle master.

I get it.

Sometimes the very thing we are motivated to do feels like it’s like running on wet sand.

We want to do it. But it’s hard. Damn hard.

And this is where the 5th principle of the mystery is revealed.

There’s a paradigm that applies when the going gets tough. It’s a way through it. A way to reconnect to your why.

Motivation is triggered by two things.

1 – Your passion for this thing you want

2 – Your work ethic to get there.

We discussed the reason, your WHY yesterday, so let’s look at the second point.

Work ethic is about showing up no matter what. Is it raining, is it cold, are the kids screaming? No matter – get up and do what is needed to be done.

If you show up, the outcome is simple.

If you don’t show up, the outcome is guaranteed. And that outcome is failure.

Work ethic is your ability, your desire to show up even when you don’t feel like it.

That’s how winning is done.

There are no guarantees in life. I can’t guarantee that this goal you want will become a reality, BUT, if you don’t develop the work ethic to start and keep going, failure is guaranteed as you can get.

So what’s the key to the correct work ethic?

Well, we started with your why. That’s super important.

Now you need to develop the discipline of habit.

One thing I know for certain after interviewing millionaires is that habits drive their behaviour. They don’t wait to feel like working. They establish the habits required to achieve the goal and then implement discipline to get there.

Anybody can get started and keep going when it feels good, when it’s easy.

There’s no challenge there.

So, to get things rolling today, review your goals, connect to your WHY and most importantly start scheduling the time required to make your goal a reality.

Develop a plan.

Start with your goal and work backwards. Reverse engineer your actions based on your goal and desires.

Develop the discipline of habit.

Develop the routine.

Tomorrow, I’m going to tell you how to handle the one thing that will threaten your goals the most. Look out for the email titled Day 6 – Handling the One thing that Threatens You.

See you then.
