In the last post, I introduced the concept of the six things that are done in your head that create all outcomes.
Today, I’d like to give you an NLP technique you can use at home to help with a problem around beliefs.
Negative beliefs are probably the biggest problem that coaches help with.
They can sound like these or any variations of them:
-
I’m not good enough
-
I’m too old / too young
-
Money is hard to come by
-
I was born to be poor
You’ll remember from the previous posts, that any problem has its basis in one of six things you can do in your head with all the information coming your way.
The following six questions which I call the Belief Buster questions (credit to David Shephard) are powerful reframe statements that ask you to consider the problem from a variety of points of view.
Here’s the process.
1 – Consider a belief you have about yourself that does not serve you (see above for examples).
2 – Holding onto that belief, ask the following questions.
-
How would you know if it’s not true?
-
For who isn’t it true?
-
When wasn’t it true for you?
-
In what ways do you know it’s not true now?
-
What do you want to believe instead?
-
In how many ways do you know that’s already true?
